Rajgarh is a small town in Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh.This beautiful picturesque location is known as Peach valley or peach bowl for good quality production of peaches. The town is also famous for many adventurous sports like hiking, fishing, rock climbing etc. There are many rest houses belonging to the PWD and Forest Department here. Also there are many private hotels and lodges here.

Geography of Rajgarh

Rajgarh is located at coordinates 30.85°N 77.3°E with an average height of 1,555 metres (5,102 feet). There are many mountains here. The climate here remains pleasant throughout the year. November is considered as the best time to visit this town. The months from December to February are however very cold months. Snow fall is also expected during these months.

This is an agricultural dominant area. It is known for the production of good quality of peaches. Rajgarh is also known as Peach valley or peach bowl. The peaches produced here are also exported to different part of the country. Most of the people of Rajgarh are engaged in this business only. The nearby areas are known for mineral resources.

Rajgarh has a total population of 2,527 with males constituting 56% and females constituting 44%. The average literacy rate is 79 with male literacy 83%, and female literacy 73%. 11% of total population is under 6 years of age.

Places to Visit in Rajgarh

Rajgarh is known for its natural beauty. It is about 40 km from Solan. People can enjoy camping and treking here. The local Shaya temple dedicated to Lord Shirgul is very famous here. Lord Shirgul according to old beliefs, first came to Shaya village and later settled in Churdhar Mountain at a height of 12,000 feet. Baru Sahib Gurdwara around 29 km from Rajgarh is a picturesque spot on the banks of a tributary of the Giri River. Habban valley is another famous tourist spot. It contains thick kail, baan, pine fir and deodar forests and orchards of apples and peaches. Habban Valley also receives snowfall during winters. Haripurdhar which is about two hour journey from Rajgarh is very famous for the Bhangayani Temple. The temple is dedicated to a god sister of Lord Shirgul. PWD rest houses and a trekker's hut are available for the tourists as a resting places. Nohradhar, is halfway between Rajgarh and Haripurdhar. It is a base place for trekking to Churdhar.

There are many things that you can enjoy in this part of Himachal Pradesh. Adventure sports in form of hiking, rock climbing are often opted by visiting tourists.

Hiking – It is a perfect place for hiking. It offers different spots of hiking with a two-hour hike in the surrounding area to a full day Hike on Churdhar peak to a height of 12000-ft.

Rock Climbing & Rappelling – it is a perfect place to learn rock climbing on the flat rock face.

River Crossing - River crossing is another fun activity that can be enjoyed here.

Splash Swimming - The two perennial stream offer a good location for day picnics around small pools.

Fishing and Angling - Giri Pul on the Giri River, is a good spot for fishing.

Bird Watching – Rajgarh is a residence of many birds from local birds to migratory birds all through the winter and Summer. Birds like Himalayan Magpies to Mainas and woodpeckers catches the eyes of tourists.

The Sunrise (Set) Trek in Rajgarh (Peach Valley) - Hike to nearest mountain top in the early morning for glorious Sun rise and a magnificent sunset in the evenings.

Transport in Rajgarh

Rajgarh can be easily reached from Solan and Chandigarh which are at a distance of 40 kms and 100 kms respectively. One can hire taxis and buses from these places and can easily reach Rajgarh.
